The Yuma Young Marines wish to enlist public’s help

Youth organization recruits children between the ages of 8 and 18, instills pride and civic duty in each of its cadets

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Young Marines is one of two units stationed in Yuma County. The group which recruits children between the ages of 8 and 18 acts as a guide.

The foundation of the Young Marines mirrors that of one of the nation's elite fighting forces: the U.S. Marine Corps. Cadets learn the importance of honor, pride and civic duty.

They also wear their uniforms proudly, and are seen as examples by their peers. Young Marines engage in drug prevention programs, veteran assistance and additional community services.

On Saturday, June 12, the Yuma Young Marines will be holding a car wash to raise money for their unit. The event is set to start at 0700 hours or 7 a.m. and end at twelve hundred hours or noon.

There will be food and drinks sold at the event, and members of the American Legion Rider will be displaying their motorcycles. Funds from this event will go toward uniforms for the cadets. It'll also help pay for an upcoming trip where cadets will learn about the Navajo Code Talkers.
