One man’s trash is another man’s treasure

The City of Yuma and the Yuma Art Center are commissioning local artists for a unique opportunity

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - If you haven't visited the Yuma Historic Downtown District in the past few months, then you're missing out. The City of Yuma in coordination with the Yuma Art Center has been commissioning artists to beautify downtown.

What some would see as a plain wall, the city sees as a blank canvas. Local artists have been leaving their mark throughout Yuma's north end.

The latest is something most people wouldn't take a second look at. Refuge dumpsters are placed within enclosures, now those enclosures are set to be given life.

The Yuma Art Center is commissioning local artists to paint murals on the enclosures. The opportunity is possible thanks in part to a donation from Degree Mechanical LLC.

Artists commissioned can receive up to a $1,000.

For more information, you can visit the Yuma Art Center's website. If you'd like to apply, you can download the application here.
