Derek Chauvin’s attorney alleges misconduct, wants new trial
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - A new court filing by Derek Chauvin's attorney cites multiple allegations of misconduct during his trial.
Chauvin was convicted on April 20th on all counts in the death of George Floyd.
The 54 page memorandum filed Wednesday highlights multiple examples that defense attorney, Eric Nelson, says prevented Chauvin from receiving a fair trial.
Nelson said there was prosecutorial misconduct, juror misconduct, witness intimidation and a "barrage" of "prejudical news."
Chauvin's attorney repeatedly argues in the filing that many of those issues could have been corrected if the judge had granted a change of venue.
Nelson said that violated Chauvin's rights and therefore a new trial should be granted.
