YCSO warns about fake warrant calls

YCSO reminds the community it does not call about criminal matters

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Deputies continue to warn residents about phone scams where the caller pretends to work for law enforcement and threatens residents saying there's a warrant for his/her arrest.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office reminds you to be aware of scammers requesting money for outstanding traffic citations or warrants.

YCSO recommends the following tips if you receive this phone call:

• Never share any personal information such as birth dates, social security numbers, or bank account details.
• Sometimes scams such as these will include spoofing a legitimate law enforcement agency phone number and using a real name of a law enforcement officer to gain the victim's trust.
• Many scammers have researched the people they are calling. So they will have some level of advanced intel that is likely from open-source information or social media.
• It would be best if you hung up immediately.-Contact your local law enforcement agency immediately to report the fraud. -Warn family, friends, and associates about the scam so that they can be on high alert.
