A health-based company wants the public to nominate a local firehouse
Step One Foods ask for nominations for its Firefighter Heart Rescue Program
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - As children, we identify the word hero with characters that wear capes or were bitten by a radioactive spider. Later, the description loses the cape and tights, and in their place are a badge and a fire-protective suit.
The fire service isn't for the light-hearted it's both physically and emotionally demanding. On top of that, your work environment is nothing less than toxic.
On a daily-basis a firefighter can endure anormous amounts of stress and anxiety. Now include smoke, dehydration and possible injuries to the mix and you'll have a recipe for disaster.
With all the dangers firefighters face day in and day out, it's the one lurking silently that kills our saviors. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for fire fighters.
Dr. Elizabeth Klodas has made it her mission to take an active role in helping our firefighters extend their service and their lives. Dr. Klodas is also the founder of Step One Foods a health-based nutrition program.
During the month of May Dr. Klodas is asking the public to nominate their local firehouse. The winning firehouse will receive the Step One Foods Firefighter Heart Rescue Program.
The Firefighter Heart Rescue Program will provide food as well as nutrition and wellness information to the firehouse. In the past the program has shown dramatic improvements in the overall health of firefighters who completed the program.
