9 undocumented migrants found in a boat at the Martinez Lake Marina

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents say a recent bust shows human smugglers are using the Colorado River as a way to bypass immigration checkpoints.

Agents say they noticed a suspicious boat at the Martinez Lake Marina around 9 Monday morning. A search of the craft revealed nine undocumented immigrants, and two suspected coyotes.

Divers from the Border Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) team searched the water and did discover some possible evidence. Border Patrol is not revealing specifically what they found.

The suspected smugglers are both from Mexico. They'll face federal smuggling charge. The remaining immigrants will be processed and expelled.
