Customer claims migrants cost him his hotel room
Ag contractor says he tried to extend reservation, but was refused - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Orchel Krier is a contractor for Kern Ridge Growers based in Kern County. Work brings him to the Imperial Valley for long periods of time. He usually stays at the El Centro Travelodge, but not anymore.
Krier tells News 11's Wiley Jawhary he's a good customer who usually pays in advance to show his loyalty. He says he frequently extends his booking, so he was caught by surprise when they told him that his reservation was no longer good.
“I saw these white vans come up and drop off what looked like migrants.,” Krier said.
Krier suspects asylum seekers are filling all available space.
Still no comment from the hotel's manager, but Imperial County Public Information Officer, Gilbert Rebollar released this statement to KYMA:
“The County is not responsible for the placement of individuals and/or family units into any designated sheltering location.
Although the County does assist in the coordination between the State, Border Patrol, and the sheltering component; the California Department of Social Services, Immigration & Integration branch, is the body that oversees placement."
