PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY)-Two construction workers die after a trench collapsed at a construction site in Phoenix.

Fire officials say the incident happened Thursday afternoon in a construction site where new homes are being built.

AzFamily reports the two workers were buried in the trench that was about 8 feet deep. Other workers tried rescuing the men but couldn't get them.

"We were receiving reports that the coworkers were attempting to get the workers out of that trench," said Capt. Rob McDade with the Phoenix Fire Department. "Unfortunately there was just too much dirt.

Sources say the men that were killed were 35-years-old.

Rescue teams are working on what they're calling a "Long process" of recovering the bodies.
