Making a Difference: Locals come to the aid of family after father dies from COVID-19

Local Car Club holding fundraiser to help raise funds for funeral

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY). Family members describe Chris Martinez as a doting father, loving husband and overall nice guy. Two months ago Chris visited a Phoenix hospital because he felt sick, he was then admitted into their COVID-10 unit. His family tells News 11 that since day one they've been in close contact with him.

His aunt Melinda Gastelum says that there were days when he talked up a storm on video chat and then there were days where he couldn't breathe. But she says that he was a fighter and that he wouldn't go down without a fight. According to family Chris planned on having a party once he was discharged from the hospital. Unfortunately, Chris has to be placed on a respirator and later passed away.

Chris was just 36 years old, he was the father of three young boys and a husband to Krystal Martinez. Now the family is facing the cost of a funeral for Chris, reaching out to their family and friends for help. Danny Miranda is Chris's cousin and he along with his car club Az Pride decided to help the family raise money to help with funeral costs.

So, on Saturday July 25th Az Pride will be holding a fundraiser at Joe Henry Park in Yuma from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. They'll be selling hamburger and hotdog plates and have a display of cars. All proceeds will go to help the family of Chris Martinez.
