CDC changes guidelines on self-isolation for people with COVID-19
(KYMA, KECY)-The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updates its guidelines on Wednesday for those isolated after testing positive to COVID-19.
The guidelines state that persons with mild to moderate COVID-19 cases remain infectious no longer than 10 days.
CDC says instead of a 14-day quarantine it recommends 10 days after the onset of symptoms and 24 hours after a fever has broken.
However, CDC says that a limited number of persons with severe illness may produce replication-competent virus beyond 10 days that may warrant extending duration of isolation and precautions for up to 20 days.
CDC continues to monitor updates and provide additional information that would warrant reconsideration of these recommendations.
