Apartment fire in Yuma displaces 3

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-Three residents evacuated safely from a fire on Tuesday.

Yuma Fire Department says the incident happened Tuesday just after 4 p.m., at Yuma Home Park.

When firefighters arrived at the scene it says it found heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the three-unit apartment buildings in the complex. Firefighters found there was an active fire inside two of the three apartments, It says the fire also spread into the attic area and under the floors.

Firefighters knocked down the fire within 20-30 minutes, but it took additional time to completely extinguish those areas above the ceiling and under the floor.

They remain at the scene into the night watching for hotspots and flare-ups.

The Marine Corps Air Station Structural Fire Department assisted YFD with the fire.

YFD says the first was first discovered burning outside and along the rear of the apartments by a resident. There was only one resident home at each of the three apartments were evacuated safely.

The American Red Cross was also at the scene to provide assistance to the three displaced residents.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
