Local man buys people’s groceries to spread neighbourly love

Yuma man makes igniting acts of kindness his mission

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Standing outside of a local strip mall is a random stranger holding a sign reading "Love your neighbor." Jim Beck is that man, spreading neighborly love is his mission.

Beck saw stories showing people struggling on the news. So, he decided he would do something about it.

"You know the bible tells us to love our neighbor and that's one of the greatest commandments that the bible gives and when we stop loving our neighbor we end up with, well the thing that's going on with racial injustice and just not helping each other". Jim tells us.

He decided to wait outside a local store and ask people if they needed help paying for their groceries. If they did, Beck handed them money. In one day he handed hundred dollar bills to over thirty people.

During our visit, Beck, and his friend Jose Ruiz, offered help to several people. Many shunned them without even asking what they were doing.

Those who stopped received a fifty dollar bill. Some asked if there was a catch. There wasn't. Still most folks approached Beck with suspicion. We also saw them leave feeling grateful. Beck says that gratitude is exactly what fuels his mission.
