Local 5-year-old girl’s story grabs Netflix’s attention

5-year-old battling kidney disease celebrates unforgettable birthday

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - News 11 shared the story of 5-year-old Amelia Brown and her special birthday celebration.

Amelia has chronic kidney disease, and just before her 5th birthday, the condition started affecting her heart.

People from Yuma and beyond sent her all sorts of interesting birthday decorations for her themed party inspired by her favorite Netflix animated movie, The Willoughby's.

To the family’s surprise, Netflix saw Amelia’s story.

The film’s director, Kris Pearn, personally reached out to the Browns.

Pearn sent Amelia a custom drawing, a handwritten letter, and some exclusive Willoughby merch.
