Looters steal 70 cars from dealership valued at 2.7 million
So far Dodge dealership has recovered 20
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Over than 70 new cars were stolen from a San Leandro dealership, Sunday night, as protests spread throughout the Bay Area.
Video posted to social media shows looters driving brand new cars off the lot, reports KRON news.
A range of models were stolen, including trucks, Jeeps, Chargers and even the Dodge Challenger Hellcats.
The dealership owner says thieves used some of the cars to exit the parking lot by ramming through vehicles blocking access to street.
So far, the dealership has recovered about 20 of the 74 stolen vehicles. The dealership owner says the cars have trackers on them, so it's only a matter of time until they recover more.
To prevent this from happening again, they’ve hired new armed security to watch the dealership at night.
The dealership says total damages are estimated at $5 million.
