Preschool worker tests positive for coronavirus
Crane Elementry School District shuts down Great Beginnings Preschool and Salida del Sol cafeteria
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Crane Elementary School District announced Friday afternoon an employee of the Great Beginnings Preschool has tested positive for coronavirus.
The worker's last day on campus was Thursday, May 14, 2020. Crane is releasing no further information on the employee, except to say he or she is seeking medical attention.
The District released the following statement on the worker:
"We understand that our community may be curious to know additional details. Out of respect for our employees and their families, and in alignment with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy laws, we must maintain confidentiality. We seek discretion and understanding during this period of time."
Crane School District Statement
The school district says it is following guidance from both the Yuma County Health District (YCHD) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Anyone who came into contact with this individual within the past two weeks will be contacted, told to be tested, and informed to self-quarantine for at least 14-days from their last time on campus.
Crane says it has not received any additional reports of symptoms among other employees. However, effective immediately, Great Beginnings Preschool will be closed to both the public and all employees.
The school district will also shut down cafeteria services at Salida del Sol Elementary School as a precaution. It's currently a meal site at Crane's "Yuma Table" meal program. The kitchen will remain closed to the public through Friday, May 29. Meals will still be available in the following locations:
- Pueblo Elementary School
- Mesquite Elementary School
- H.L. Suverkrup Elementary School
- Valley Horizon Elementary School
- Ronald Reagan Elementary School
- Gary A. Knox Elementary School
The school district will do intensive cleaning and sanitization on both facilities, and then continue enhanced daily cleaning protocols.
Meal service at Salida Del Sol and Rancho Viejo Elementary Schools will resume on Monday, June 1.
