(KYMA, KECY) - The Western States Pact is now turning to the federal government for financial aid, Gov. Newsom announced Monday.

In his press conference, Newsom announced the leaders of California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Colorado signed a joint letter, asking for $1 trillion in relief to states and local governments.

Oregon's Governor, Kate Brown, also spoke in regards of the pact, saying without federal support, "states and cities will be forced to make impossible decisions."

As the pandemic greatly affects the global economy, California has gone from having a $6 billion budget surplus to a multi-billion dollar deficit.

On Tuesday, Newsom is expected to announce more guidelines for businesses to reopen, including dine-in restaurants, offices and malls.
