Sonora sees surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths
HERMOSILLO, Sonora (KYMA, KECY)-As of Wednesday, the Secretary of Health in Sonora confirms 59 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths.
The new deaths are confirmed in San Luis Rio Colorado (SLRC), Hermosillo, and Nogales.
The first death occurred in a 64-year-old woman who suffered from chronic lung disease, diabetes and HIV. The patient began with respiratory symptoms on April 20 and on April 23 she was hospitalized at the General Hospital of SLRC. Due to the severity of her symptoms, she was transferred to the hospital in Mexicali.
The second death occurred in a 63-year-old man from Nogales, who did not have previous illnesses. After he was evaluated, he was sent home for isolation but the patient died in his home May 1, health officials say.
The third death occurred in an 82-year-old woman, a Hermosillo resident, with a history of diabetes and hypertension. She was admitted to the hospital and was placed under invasive mechanical ventilation. The woman passed away on May 4.
Health officials say the 59 new confirmed cases occurred in 19 women and 40 men, with ages ranging between 19 and 82 years, residents of the municipalities of: Hermosillo (21); San Luis RÃo Colorado (19); Let me (6); Cananea (4); Nogales (3); Agua Prieta (3); Guaymas (2) and Navojoa (1).
