MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY)-The indigenous people from Oaxaca who are dedicated to selling on the streets of Mexicali have fallen into a difficult economic situation due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

It has been over a month since their artisan products such as; brooms, mops, and food that they offer to the public have stopped selling since people have shown fear of getting the virus.

A street vendor in Mexicali, Fedelina Barrios from Oaxaca says there are plenty of street vendors with families that are in need of supplies. In addition to asking for food in exchange for her products, she has requested diapers for adults and babies.

Barrios says the government has given them very little help during the pandemic. Adding that in desperation to help her community, she will be raffling three artisan bags on May 10.

Barrios will be selling the tickets for $3 to the public.

Street vendors meet every day on Calzada Cetys and Macristy Street to sell their products.

If you would like to purchase a ticket, donate supplies, or would like more information contact the vendors at (686) 370- 3288.
