Major airlines will require passengers wear face masks
New rules enforced as early as Monday
Yuma, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - American, United, Delta, Southwest, Alaska, Frontier and JetBlue have announced passengers will need to wear face masks in order to fly.
Starting Monday, JetBlue requires all passengers to wear face masks on-board. United and Delta will make face masks a requirement from check-in through deplaning.
Delta says customers are allowed to take masks off to eat, and masks are also required for use in its Sky Club lounges.
Frontier Airlines has responded by saying starting May 8, customers will be required to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their journey. This includes ticket counters, gate ares, and onboard aircraft.
On May 11, American Airlines will also join-in, requiring all customers traveling to wear a face covering or mask while on board the aircraft.
Southwest and Alaska Airlines will also implement similar guidelines on May 11.
Southwest says, "If you forget your mask at home, one will be available for you."
These new rule implementations across the nation's major airlines have consumers and critics asking if this is the new norm.
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has severely affected U.S. air travel. Reports say it has dropped 95% from last year and the number of flights scheduled globally has decreased by 63%.
