Financial analysts project Yuma County unemployment to rise

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-Money Geek, a financial tech company projects that the Yuma County will see over 27,000 unemployment claims due to the coronavirus, and for El Centro, over 25,000 claims.

The financial tech company is known to provide tools to help people make better financial decisions.

According to Money Geek, unemployment claims in the state of Arizona have already reached over 71,000, with 3% of those claims coming from the Yuma County population alone. For California, unemployment is well over 500,000 people already.

Money Geek has created a tracker to help people understand what is happening in local areas, the local economy, and also to find resources that can help with the impact of unemployment.

So far the tracker has projected the Yuma County to see a 28% unemployment rate which amounts to 27,300 people out of work. For El Centro it is projected to have a 35% unemployment rate, amounting to more than 25,000 out of work.

The head of marketing and data analytics for Money Geek claims that these jobs will come from the leisure and hospitality sector, healthcare and education sector, and the trade and retail sector.

A few tips Money Geek has for those who are jobless is to apply for unemployment, even if it's a lengthy process. Also, take a look at your spending and cut costs where you can. Lastly, get out there and try to secure a new job even if it's not in the same industry you worked in before.
