Local school parades through neighborhoods for their students

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Pueblo Elementary School paraded throughout the streets of Yuma today. All in hopes of putting smiles on the faces of students and families.

Schools in the desert Southwest have been closed for nearly two months now; but the staff and educators, at pueblo elementary school, put on quite the show for their students Saturday morning.

Bobby Henry is the Principal of Pueblo Elementary School.

“We drove thru all of our neighborhoods so we could say hello to our students and let them know that we miss them and we’re thinking of them; even though we aren’t getting to see them everyday, on a regular basis, because our schools are closed.”

The school administration says, it's another way of connecting with students and families, during this pandemic.

Jennifer Kerwin is an Admin Assistant at the school.

“We had so many kids that were trying to zoom with us. We would watch them get on and they would show us the goofiest things!”

Letting the students know the staff and teachers are still virtually standing side-by-side with them.

“Even though, we all say, it would be so nice to have a really long break or we love for the summer to come… we all decided that we really didn’t like that as much. We really do want to see them, we want to see what they are doing. We wanted them to know that we were really thinking of them too,” Kerwin said.

The crowds throughout all of the neighborhoods are warming the hearts of our local educators.

"Thank you to all of our families that came out to support us. We couldn’t make it down every street and we hope we didn’t miss anyone," the Principal exclaimed.

Henry also tells us, the school is coming up with other ideas for their students, over the summer break.
