Number of Yuma County coronavirus cases climbs by 10 in just one day
Surge in cases comes on the same day Arizona sees spike in deaths
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma County District Health Services saw it's largest single-day increase in cases of coronavirus Wednesday. Health officials say 10 more people have now contracted the illness.
Health officials aren't releasing any personal details on the patients, but numbers show four of the new patients are women, five are men. Three new patients are between the ages of 18 and 39. Two are between 40 and 59. Five are older than 60.
The surge comes on the same day as the state of Arizona saw 21 coronavirus deaths, the most in a single day since the outbreak began.

Arizona currently has 5,459 cases of coronavirus. The illness has killed 229 people across the state, including one person in Yuma County.

The spike in cases and deaths comes as Governor Doug Ducey considers whether to reopen the economy. It's been shut down since March 30. Ducey's stay-at-home order expires next week, but he says he may extend it. Ducey says he'll base his decision on data from federal and state experts.
