Fire in El Centro Regional Medical Center
El CENTRO,Calif. (KYMA,KECY) -A fire broke out at El Centro Regional Medical Center the current epicenter of care for Imperial County’s COVID-19 patients.
The El Centro Fire department responded to a call about a fire on the roof.
Firefighters say when they arrived hospital staff had already began evacuating the patients. Twenty four patients were evacuated.
“When you think about the number of people they moved and relocated about 24 people you know that is a lot of movement and you know that isn’t easy some of them are bed-bound you can’t move them very easily and some of them you can,”said Cedric Cesena, Battalion Chief.
ECRMC says one of the patients might have COVID-19. They're still waiting for test results.
“I want to assure the public that our capability to take care of COVID patients is intact. We have no loss for our vents no loss for our capability to take on COVID positive patients and or to treat and or to isolate so we are actually in good shape right now thanks to a very quick response,”said Dr. Adolphe Edward, DRHA, MBA, MS ,Chief Executive Officer.
No one was injured and the patients will not return to that wing of the hospital until it is deemed safe by local agencies.
“I can’t thank you enough for what you’re doing you are our hero today,” said Dr.Edward.
The fire department is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
