EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY)-A 15-year-old freshman from Southwest High School has been battling coronavirus for over two weeks now.

With no cure in sight, Melynda Polunas says her daughter is relying on antibiotics to help her overcome the virus.

Polunas says her daughter has also struggled with severe asthma since she was a kid.

“This is not something that just old people are catching. My daughter, she’s just fifteen. There are times when I thought to myself, am I going to wake up and is she going to be gone,” said Melynda Polunas.

Her daughter is isolated from the rest of her family in her room. Polunas says it’s not easy having to speak and care for her daughter from behind a door.

“Every time I open the door to her room I'm afraid that’s going to be the situation,” said Polunas.

Polunas says her daughter has not had a breakthrough with the Zinc medication and antibiotics she is taking. She says her condition remains more or less the same.

Polunas shared her daughter's story on social media to help others that may have similar symptoms as her daughter.

“Sharing your story can help other people know that this isn't fake,” said Polunas.

Polunas says the outpour of love her family has received from the community has been a blessing.

Polunas has hope that her daughter will overcome the virus.
