TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-Border Patrol agents stopped multiple human smuggling attempts last week near Douglas, Ariz.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says agents arrested a man and a woman from Bisbee last Wednesday for smuggling six undocumented immigrants in a Ford Explorer.

While searching the vehicle, agents also found a loaded .38 revolver.

That same evening, agents worked with multiple law enforcement agencies to catch a vehicle that failed to yield for an immigration traffic stop on federal Route 1 near Ajo.

CBP says the vehicle's occupants, including three undocumented immigrants, attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended.

Agents assigned to the state Route 85 immigration point near Ajo say a Phoenix man was arrested for smuggling two undocumented immigrants in his vehicle's trunk.

On Tuesday, agents assigned to the immigration checkpoint on Interstate 19 near Amado, arrested a man and a woman from Tucson after agents discovered two Mexican nationals locked inside the vehicle's trunk.

“These arrests illustrate the complexity of our mission,” said Chief Roy D. Villareal of the Tucson Sector. “Agents never know who they will encounter, and no situation is routine.”
