Adorable duo become internet superstars

HILTON, N.Y. (KYMA, KECY) - They may not be birds of a feather, but they do flock together. Now some adorable photos of their unusual friendship are breaking the internet and boosting donations to the shelter they call home.

Lundy, an eight week old chihuahua, and his pigeon pal, Herman have been roommates at the Mia Foundation in Hilton, New York for more than a month. Herman can't fly. Lundy can't walk. But both are more than capable of inspiring love all around the world.

It all started with a happy accident.

"Thursday night I took Herman out of his play pen to give him some time out and I put him in a dog bed and then I had to tend to Lundy so I put Lundy in with him.. they just looked really cute together so I took some pictures and posted them to Facebook and the next morning it was crazy." says Sue Rogers, who runs the foundation.

Lundy and Herman have racked up more than 6-million views, 42,000 shares, and nearly 19,000 comments and likes.

"We had request to share our videos from Mexico, Italy, the UK, Russia, China." says Rogers.

It gets better. The photos are inspire people to reach into their pockets and give.

"Just from a simple picture of a pigeon and a puppy being shared, we've already brought in over $6000 in donations." says Rogers.

Rogers' husband, Gary, says he knows why the pictures became so popular.

"I think the world needs good stories and when you have two species that basically fall in love, it can only touch hearts."
