Viewership doubles in just one year

NEW YORK, N.Y. (KYMA, KECY) - Nearly one-fifth of television viewing in the U.S. now comes through streaming services like Netflix or Hulu. That's according to a new study by the Nielson ratings company.

The study says in 2019 streaming only accounted for ten-percent of viewing. That means it's popularity has doubled.

Nielson found more than half of streamers subscribe to two or more service. 93-percent of those surveyed said they plan to keep the same amount of subscriptions or add to them.

The study says people now spend nearly 12-hours a day connected to some sort of media. It also says the number of hours spent viewing media on smartphones is growing at an explosive rate.
