Rwandan Genocide survivor speaks to students

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA , KECY)-Rwandan Genocide survivor and author, Jeanne Celestine Lakin, gave a presentation to students at Central Union High School, (CUHS).

Lakin's memoir, A Voice in the Darkness, talks about the 1994 Rwanda Genocide.

Lakin shares her experience as a 9-year-old girl during the genocide.

Students at CUHS have been reading Lakin's memoir for the last two weeks and today they were able to meet her and discuss her book.

Lakin says she wants students to realize that they can accomplish anything they set out to do. She used her life story as a prime example.
