Michigan man returns $43K after finding it in used couch

OWOSSO, Mich. (KYMA, KECY)- A Michigan man finds $43,000 in a piece of furniture he purchased from a donation facility. What would you do?

WNEM News said Howard Kirby purchased a couch for his man cave and made a shocking discovery.

Kirby found thousands of dollars hidden inside the couch.

“I still have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming or something,” Kirby said.

Kerby said he had the ottoman for a few weeks before noticing it was uncomfortable. That’s when his daughter decided to open it up, according to WNEM.

Kirby said he didn't feel right keeping the money and reached out to the store where he purchased the couch to ask who it belonged to.

Turns out, it belonged to a man who had recently passed away.

Kirby said he could’ve used the money but felt better knowing the money is in the rightful hands.

“I always thought what would I do if that ever happened and now I know, and it makes me feel good,” Kirby said.
