WASHINGTON D.C. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Dozens of anti-war demonstrations were planned throughout the nation on Saturday.

They protested the Trump administration's decision to kill a top Iranian general, claiming the move will propel the US into a long war with Iran.

However President Trump has since said the killing of General Qasem Soleimani was designed to "stop a war" rather than start one.

Saturday's protests were most notably held outside the White House and New York's Times Square, organized by the 'Act Now to stop War and End Racism' coalition.

Jane Fonda was present at Washington, known for making her weekly climate protests at the Capitol.

Fonda spoke at the event, saying, "did we once again not learn the lessons of Vietnam? Not bother to understand the people we were shaming and insulting. Not to mention killing, and the environment there that we are destroying and the children that are dying of toxins because of the gassing."

Various other speakers voiced concerns over growing global conflict at the events.
