Coast guard continues search for survivors of Hawaiian helicopter crash

Tragic discovery comes just hours after location of crash site

HONOLULU, Hawaii (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - The remains of six people have been recovered from the scene of a helicopter crash on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

The discovery comes just hours after search teams found the wreckage of a sightseeing helicopter that disappeared Thursday night.

A pilot and six passengers, including two children, were aboard the helicopter when it went down.

"There's two different sets of family members that were on the aircraft, party of 2 and a party of 4, but that's all I can tell you right now." said Battalion Chief Sol Kanoho of the Kauai Fire Department.

The helicopter went down while flying over one of the most rugged and remote coastlines in Hawaii.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident. In the meantime, the Federal Aviation Administration has issued a temporary flight restriction over the search area.
