Firefighters battle 4-alarm fire in Brawley
BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)- A fire partially destroys two homes in Brawley Monday.
The Brawley Fire Department sought assistance from the Imperial County Fire Department to put out the fire.
According to the Brawley Fire Department, the fire started at a house just after 9:00 a.m.
Windy conditions caused the fire to spread.
“When we first arrived on the scene there was one house involved and due to wind and weather conditions it was exposed and caught the next house on fire,” Michael York, Brawley Fire Department.
Residents at both homes were inside when the fire started, but they were able to evacuate safely.
Neighbors nearby were also asked to evacuate from their homes, but the fire was contained thanks to the help of mutual aid from neighboring cities.
“No Department in the valley can handle every incident, so when this incident exceeded our capabilities we do reach out to neighboring communities for help and we do the same in return,” said York.
One neighbor we spoke to was worried that Christmas lights might have been the cause of the fire.
“I was worried about my Christmas lights getting wet. When I saw this house on fire I thought, I better do something different with my lights,” said Shane Wilson, neighbor.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Christmas lights don’t seem to be a factor in the fire.
Another neighbor we spoke to says the house that caught on fire had just been remodeled.
“Both of them did. They put a lot of money into them. I wouldn’t wish it on any of them . God bless them and I hope they can have their houses rebuilt,” sais Rose Mary Mendoza, neighbor.
As of now, no injuries have been reported.
