Dentist performs surgery while riding hoverboard – patient sues
Patient objects to video shot during procedure
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KYMA, KSWT, KECY/NBC News) - A dentist thought a video of him performing surgery while riding a hoverboard would win him more patients. It got him in trouble with the law instead.
The video shows Dr. Seth Lookhart riding the board while operating on Veronica Wilhelm. Wilhem, who was sedated at the time, testified Friday she never consented to be taped. In fact, she only found out about the video after being contacted by an investigators.
Wilhelm addressed Lookhart directly during her testimony in an Anchorage courtroom.
"I don't have anything bad to say about taking out my tooth, I appreciate that, but I just think that what you did was outrageous, narcissistic you know, and crazy. I forgive you for all of that, but there's obviously a high-priced lesson that you're going to have to learn." Wilhem told the dentist.
Prosecutors say Lookhart sent the video to at least eight people in a text saying "A new standard of care."
The dentist isn't just in trouble for shooting and sharing the video. He's also accused of stealing from his practice partners, and fraudulently billing Medicaid.
