Previously deported gang member arrested by El Centro BP agents

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)- El Centro Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported gang member Tuesday.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the agents arrested 37-year-old Esteban Perez-Lara, a Mexican national after illegally entering the U.S. east of the Calexico West Port of Entry.

Reports said after arresting Perez, record checks revealed that through the Bureau of Prisons, Perez is a documented Sureño 13 gang member.

According to CBP, Perez was previously deported from the U.S. on multiple occasions.

Perez is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.
