Go behind the scenes at YPG

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Most people think military bases are completely top secret and off limits, but the Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) is opening its gates to you.

Command Sergeant Major Jamathon Nelson said it's important to open up the doors and let people in Yuma know what the base actually does, especially considering some of the public's misconceptions.

“That some of the testing we’re doing is top secret stuff and there is to some extent," Command Sgt. Maj. Nelson said. "There’s some stuff that there’s some secrecy behind, that’s because its military.”

YPG has up to 150 military tests every day in the 1200 square mile base.

The base has been the nation’s busiest test center for the past nine years.
