Cell phone video shows civilians taking on stabbing suspect
"Breathtaking heroism" caught on camera
LONDON, England (KYMA, KSWT, KECY/NBC News/AP) - Cell phone video has surfaced of civilians rushing in to disarm a man accused of stabbing several people near the London Bridge on Friday.
Video obtained by NBC News appears to show a man actually walking away with the suspect's weapon in his hand.
Police later shot and killed the suspect. He has not yet been identified.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan now says police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbings.
In a statement, the mayor commends the "breathtaking heroism" of the members of the public who intervened in the incident. Video shows several people running towards the suspect instead of running away.
Khan confirms the suspect stabbed a number of people, but did not offer an exact number. He says some of the injuries are serious.
London police and British investigators are still piecing together what happened, but it appears a man wearing a fake explosive vest began attacking people near the bridge around 2 p.m. London time.
Police are treating the incident as terrorism. Thus far they've offered no information on which radical group the suspect may have been aligned with, nor have the commented on a possible motive.
