The Story Corps mobile studio is a refurbished Airstream camper housing a mobile audio booth.

Story Corps will be recording compelling stories of locals now until December 21st.

YUMA, Ariz. (KSWT) - Preserving the stories of the community is an important part of preserving our local history.

Now an exciting project is bringing the chance for you to record, preserve and share any story that’s meaningful to you.

The Story Corps Mobile Tour is here for a whole month parked right outside the Yuma Art Center.

Within that month the project hopes to record your most compelling stories to preserve in the United States Library of Congress.

An effort to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, that’s what the mission of the project said.

The project put together by local National Public Radio (NPR) station KAWC, is coming back for a second time to the desert southwest. Giving you and a loved one or a friend the chance to sit down inside of a retrofitted airstream camper and record a compelling meaningful conversation.

Story Corps Site Manager Ava Ahmadbeigi said, "The great thing about Story Corps is that we don’t go in asking for any particular story we just ask that they have a meaningful conversation."

Upon completion of your session, you will receive a copy of your conversation as well as the option to share your story with your local NPR station’s listeners.

It’s free of charge and you can record in any language. There is also no particular story that they are looking to record.

The project has been going on for 15 years, collecting and sharing millions of stories from various communities in and around the country.

Ahmadbeigi said, "We record it in English or Spanish or any language that you speak, we don’t have to speak the language that you are speaking for you to come and record."

October 10 is the official first day when recordings will begin. An event will celebrate the month-long project at 10 am.
