Sending a piece of home to local troops overseas
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) Services members stationed overseas might have a hard time celebrating Christmas when loved ones are so far away.
But volunteers at the American Legion Auxiliary in El Centro are bringing a piece of home to the men and women who fight for our country's freedom.
This year the group is sending 100 care packages to a local soldier and his squadron who are stationed in the middle east.
Dawn Roscoe, President for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 25 in El Centro, said the boxes were designed by children from local elementary schools and filled with essentials, hoping to make it a little easier during the holidays.
"We add things like Tajin. Things that they're not going to be able to get where they're at. A little note. Little letters from the school kids. And letting them know that we are thinking of them. And we're very grateful for all their time and service."
All 100 care packages will be sent out Monday morning. The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Imperial Valley Patriotic Planning Committee.
