Sending a piece of home to local troops overseas

Services members stationed overseas might have a hard time celebrating Christmas when loved ones are so far away.

But volunteers at the American Legion Auxiliary in El Centro are bringing a piece of home to the men and women who fight for our country’s freedom.

This year the group is sending 100 care packages to a local soldier and his squadron who are stationed in the middle east.

Dawn Rascoes , President for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 25 in El Centro, said the boxes were designed by children from local elementary schools and filled with essentials, hoping to make it a little easier during the holidays.

” We add things like Tajin . Things that they’re not going to be able to get where they’re at. A little note. Little letters from the school kids. And letting them know that we are thinking of them. And we’re very grateful for all their time and service. ”

All 100 care packages will be sent out Monday morning. The event was made possible thanks to collaboration with the Imperial Valley Patriotic Planning Committee.
