YUHSD students undergo CSI training

Students in the Law and Public Safety Program in the Yuma Union High School District ( YUHSD ) participated in a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) training on Friday, November 15, at Yuma High School.

Yuma High, Cibola , Kofa and San Luis students received extensive training in topics ranging from proper evidence tagging, to taking measurements.

In the end the 36 participants had to complete a written exam on their CSI skills.

Those who passed the exam earned a CSI certification.

“It’s a training that helps us all get on the same page of how to conduct crime scene investigations,” Yuma High Law and Public Safety teacher Manuel Zuniga said.

“They’ll measure out the crime scenes, they’ll take reports, they’ll do some teamwork like who will be interviewing, who will be taking pictures, who will be sketching the scene, and things like that.”

The event was overseen by Herbert Williams, a former police officer and current President of the Las Vegas School of Criminal Justice

YUHSD students participate in regional, state, and national competitions for various law and public safety events, including CSI, through the districts’ Career and Technical Education program.

Through the program, students have the opportunity to earn a range of professional certificates in two years.
