Trump ally faces 50-years behind bars

A high-profile political ally of President Donald Trump faces up to 50-years in prison when sentenced for lying to Congress and obstructing an investigation into Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential race.

It took a jury less than eight-hours to find Roger Stone guilty of seven federal charges including one count of obstructing an official proceeding, five counts of making false statements to Congress, and one count of witness tampering. He could face up to 50-years in a federal prison, if a judge sentences him to the maximum penalty on all counts.

Stone is the sixth former Trump advisor to be convicted of, or to plead guilty to, charges stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

President Donald Trump reacted to news of Stone’s conviction with this tweet:

Experts say Stone will like appeal his conviction. There’s also speculation about the possibility of a Presidential pardon.

A date for his sentencing has not yet been set.
