Mother of deceased Brawley infant facing Murder

The mother of the 19-month-old infant that was found dead on November 7, made her first appearance in court Tuesday.

Tania Ramirez was taken into custody for involuntary manslaughter after the Brawley Police Department found her baby girl deceased in their apartment.

According to court documents, 23-year-old Tania Ramirez was charged with one count of murder and another count of assault on a child causing death.

The death of her 19-month-old baby girl has left the community devastated.

We spoke to Ramirez’s nextdoor neighbor who alleges Ramirez was abusive to her daughter.

“I was actually with her at Women Haven. Other girls had witnessed her being verbally abusive as well as hitting the baby and i did let staff know, but apparently they didn’t do anything about it,” said her neighbor.

She says Ramirez ended up being her next door neighbor and admits she once called the cops on her.

” It’s your fault and I hate you. when I would get closer to her door she would be quiet. The yelling escalated and I did call the cops for a welfare check up, but she didn’t answer the door, ” said Ramirez’s neighbor.

She says the week the baby died she sensed something was wrong.

” I kind of feared something had happened to the baby. I wish the police would have done something that day, especially Woman Haven.

We reached out to Woman Haven for comment, but they were not able to confirm if Ramirez was or wasn’t a client, due to confidentiality agreements.

Ramirez is expected back at the El Centro courthouse on December 11.

According to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office, an autopsy has been completed on the infant, but no information has been released at this time.
