Ag Alert: Winter Harvest predictions are in
Positive, if Mother Nature cooperates
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KSWT). In Agriculture news predictions for the upcoming winter harvest are in, and as always they depend on Mother Nature. According to The Packer an Ag industry publication last year’s heavy rains in Yuma County and warmer than usual weather in Monterrey County delayed the harvest. But, industry specialists believe the winter harvest looks promising.
As companies make their way south for the winter harvest Southern California seems to be the go-to location. Last year, Brawley received some rain, but not enough to affect the harvest. Yuma County however was doused with heavy rains which originated in the Gulf of California. Those rains destroyed many fields in Yuma County and in turn affected the start date for growers in Northern California. So, experts believe that although there are set-backs; the harvest should be back on track by mid-December.
Ag experts predict if fair weather persists they can see an optimal harvest all the way until March. According to the article Coastline Family Farms was expected to start their harvest in Yuma by the beginning of November; the latest has the company moving their business to Brawley with a start date in December.
