El Centro suspect is behind bars for alleged attempted murder

An El Centro man is behind bars tonight after police said he drove into three people on purpose.

Authorities responded to reports of a fight in a neighborhood on 8th and Buena Vista.

Commander Aaron Reel, of the El Centro Police Department said, ” It appears that a driver had taken his vehicle and intentionally driven in a residence and three people that were standing in the car port. ”

The 41-year-old suspect fled from the scene but didn’t get far.

” The damage that was caused to the vehicle was severe enough that he lost control of the vehicle. And then crashed into set of poles. ”

Police said the suspect ran off but was eventually arrested.

” He was taken into custody without incident. Taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, treated for some injuries. And then later booked into jail. ”

Authorities said the driver hit two men and one woman.

” I believe one was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center. However the current condition of that patient is unknown. ”

Law enforcement believe they know the motive.

Commander Reel added, ” It appears it was an act of retribution for an earlier fight. The evidence and details of that are still being investigated at this point. ”

The suspect was booked into Imperial County Jail on a bail of $500,000 and is facing one count of attempted murder.
