El Centro Mayor to stand trial for DUI

A judge has set a trial date for El Centro mayor Edgard Garcia.

Garcia will stand trial on DUI charges on January 14, 2020.

El Centro police pulled over the mayor in early May. Records show he refused a field sobriety test.

Garcia has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Four different judges recused themselves from handling the mayor’s case to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest. Local attorneys say that’s not surprising in a community as small as Imperial Valley.
