The U.S. Marshals: How deputies capture fugitives

The U.S. Marshals arrest fugitives across the world bringing them back into the country to face the a judge in court.

So far for the fiscal year 2019, deputies arrested over 70 fugitives from Mexico accused of committing crimes in the U.S. and at the same time 16 fugitives from Mexico that escaped into the U.S. are now behind bars.

” So we have an actual group in the Marshals department that work with the local, state, and federal police to ensure the fugitives are brought to justice if they flee across the border, ” said Chief Deputy, Timothy Hughes, with the Department.

The Chief Deputy said this work could not be done without the help of Mexican authorities on the local, state, and federal levels. He adds that most of the cases the department sees are homicides from all around the world.

” This year alone we brought people back from as far away as Vietnam, Malaysia, from almost every European country, ” said Chief Deputy Hughes.
