SLPD initiative targets human sex trafficking

The San Luis Police Department ( SLPD ) takes action by launching a task force to diminish human sex trafficking issues in our community.

The SLPD Chief Richard Jessup , says the new task force is expected to launch in 2020.

” Along with prostitution, human trafficking is an issue that is a real underlying factor, ” said Chief Jessup .

SLPD said the department is working to handle the crimes from a prosecution side while getting the victims the help they need.

Chief Jessup said, ” Where it’s at and then prosecute those that are involved and send those females that are involved in the agencies that can help them transition into life. ”

Jessup says those who are targeted are teens, the youngest being 12 years old.

According to Chief Jessup , “A lot of these teenagers, a lot of younger women that are usually promised the American life.”
