UPS armed robbery suspect sentenced to 6 years behind bars

Adrian Guzman, who was taken into custody after an armed robbery at a UPS facility was sentenced to 6 years in prison Wednesday morning.

Guzman pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. He has one prior felony and a history of mental illness. Inside the courtroom, the judge explained that he granted leniency towards his sentencing due to Guzman not being in the right state of mind at the time of the incident.

ORIGINAL STORY: One arrested after armed robbery leads to police chase

YPD said at approximately 8:25 p.m. on May 31, officers responded to a report of a theft at the UPS facility, located at 2851 S 2 ½E.

Officers said during the incident a handgun was pointed at employees and the suspects left with several packages.

A pursuit ensued during which stop sticks were deployed in an attempt to disable the fleeing vehicle.

The vehicle stopped on the 16th Street exit ramp from I-8 where officers performed a high-risk vehicle stop.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle were taken into custody.
