El Centro Border Patrol stop convicted felons from re-entering U.S.

NILAND, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT) El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents prevented two convicted felons from re-entering the country.

It happened just before seven Tuesday morning.  A patrol agent spotted two men walking in the desert near Hot Mineral Spa Road.  The agent arrested both men and took them to the Highway 111 checkpoint for processing.

Background checks revealed one of the men, 23-yar-old Nicson Valenzuela-Redondo, had been convicted of rape in Riverside in 2016.  He spent three-years in prison, and was deported upon his release in 2019.

A second man also had a criminal record.  He too was deported in 2019.

Both men remain in federal custody.

Valenzuela is the seventh convicted sex offender apprehended by Border Patrol in fiscal year 2020.
