Border Patrol agents seize meth at I-8 checkpoint

The U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Pine Valley checkpoint arrested a man who had crystal meth hidden inside his gas tank, Tuesday.

Agents said a man driving a 2008 Nissan Altima was sent to secondary after a canine alerted to the vehicle for further inspection of his vehicle.

While in secondary, agents searched the vehicle and discovered 32 plastic-wrapped bundles concealed inside the gas tank.

According to agents, the bundles contained 38.40 pounds of methamphetamine valued at $72,960.

The 29-year-old U.S. citizen was arrested and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

To prevent the illicit smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance on corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders. To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.
